I highly recommend OK KO Lets Play Heroes to all fans of the show. Even if you haven't seen the show (which you totally should) you'll easliy get into the game without feeling lost. The animation for this game might be a bit iffy at first sight for some die-hard fans like myself since it's not 100% accurate to the show but it grows on you fast. OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes Review:
If you’re a fan of OK K.O., then you’ll be glad to know this game stays very true to it. The characters, locations, items, music, voice actors, etc. It’s all still there.
Gameplay isn’t anything unique, but it works well. Nothing but beating up robots with punches, kicks, and getting some of the other heroes to lend you special abilities to help fight. There’s a nice variety in the enemies too, each with their own attack patterns. Soundtrack is also nicely done, fitting to the theme of the show.
Some minor complaints, the game feels extremely linear, despite the free roaming environment which doesn’t have a lot to do in, besides talk to the same characters, who usually repeat the same things until you progress. Pattern seems to go: talk to person A, then to person B, then there’s a short ~2-5 minute fight, then go back to person B, then back to person A…
Now like I said, it has all the voice actors, and so a lot of the time it feels like I’m watching an episode of the show, which is nice! But if the show doesn’t appeal to you, you’ll probably get bored rather quickly.
I originally said it felt like there wasn’t anyway to dodge during a combo. You can actually use your double jump to hop away during a combo. I often found myself trying to knock enemies in the air to keep the combo going because of this. So, it’s not an annoyance, it works rather nicely. And once you level up and get the air grab, it really helps.
Combine that with your health replenishing at the start of each battle and the game really isn’t that difficult.
Definitely recommended to fans of the show! If you can learn to like the show, I’m sure fans of the beat’em up genre will like it, too.
If you like the game then please buy it to support the developers Steam Link.
